Pool Care
Made SimpleOK....So you think that taking care of a pool, because of its enormous size,
would be much harder than taking care of your hot tub? Actually, it could be the
same or easier, just larger quantities of chemicals. Instead of teaspoons and
tablespoons of chemical to look after your spa, you may be using
cups and pails
for measuring chemicals for your pool.
Water Testing: Always test your pool water BEFORE adding any
pool chemicals to the water. Bring in a water sample to Pools by Angelo once
every 2 to 3 weeks to be sure your test kits are performing up to snuff.
Purchase new reagents once per year to insure they will give accurate readings.
Water Balance: A water balance test will tell us one of
three things, either your pool is:
(1) Corrosive (2) Scaling or (3) balanced
Corrosive: Corrosive pool water attacks metal fittings,
piping and pit concrete pool surfaces. Usually the metals involved are copper
and iron which dissolve in the water and result in unsightly staining of any
surface in contact with the corrosive water. You literally are dissolving
portions of your pool!
Scaling: In this situation the
pool water will deposit or precipitate a white residue called scale. This scale
causes pool surfaces to be rough to the touch. Scale builds up on the inside
diameter of pipes to constrict the flow of water and
causes
filters to plug. A cloudy pool can also be caused by rapid formation of scale
which has not had time to attach itself to hard surfaces.
Both of the Above: The water is out of balance. Costly
damage can occur to your pool. With continually corrosive pool water, fittings
and piping and even your heater may have to be replaced! Severe staining may
result in the complete liner of the pool to be replaced! Unsightly growths of
scale will prevent your pool's heater from working properly and will cause rapid
filter back pressure and clogged pipes. The result is an unnecessarily expensive
repair and possible replacement of your pool's plumbing system.
WHY ACHIEVE WATER BALANCE?
Neither scaling nor corrosion will occur if pool water is in balance. Your
pool is protected!
Proper water balance levels to shoot for:
PH level: 7.4 to 7.6
Total Alkalinity: 80 to 120 ppm
Calcium Hardness: 200 to 275 ppm
