Spa Planning |
Costs
Spa prices range from $4,000 to $14,000. Size is only one factor in evaluating prices. Generally the more expensive tubs have:
higher quality construction
more reliable and higher performing components
longer and more comprehensive warranties or guarantees (Beachcomber)
special features for easier or less frequent maintenance
increased comfort and safety.
More energy efficiency qualities (you pay less for operating costs)
In other words, you get what you pay for.
Installation costs
Installation can increase the overall price of a spa by $1500. Installation costs may be even higher if renovations or additional decking are necessary.
Portable units reduce some of the costs of installation. The self- contained units have all of the mechanical parts housed within the skirting and only require electrical connection.
Be sure to use qualified professionals and have your spa inspected to ensure installation meets appropriate regulations.
The following considerations can also affect the costs of installation:
A spa full of water and people is heavy. Floors should be made of a foundation material such as wood (decking), ceramic tile or concrete, which will support the weight and not be affected by water.
If the spa is inside the house, you should have a spill-over floor drain and adequate ventilation.
Drain pipes should lead to the sewer, not to storm drains or your backyard.
A shower should be nearby so bathers can shower before using the spa.
