Checklist for Hot Tubs

Before going to the store, check:

  • The appropriate provincial and municipal regulations.
  • The adequacy of electrical service and structure of your home.
  • What additional costs may be incurred (decking, adjacent shower, livesaver outlets, etc.)
  • At the Store, Check:

  • CSA-certified system
  • Tub material
  • Comfort of interior (seats, back and neck supports, arm and foot rests)
  • Depth of seats in relation to water line
  • Size, location and power, massage quality of the jets
  • Noise of the unit when operating
  • Access to filter and ease of cleaning
  • Details of filtration system
  • Details of Circulation pump or two speed pump
  • Types of covers available, whether they are included in the price, and if they have a Power Smart or Power Saver seal.
  • Obtain a copy of the warranty or guarantee
  • Check out the dealer`s service department - do they service and repair their product and test water samples (qualified staff is imperative)?
  • Check out the reputation of the dealer - ask for references from satisfied customers and if the dealer belongs to the Better Business Bureau. Also ask if the dealer is a member of the National Spa and Pool Institute (NSPI).
  • Find out store policies on deposits, refunds if not satisfied, water testing facilities.
  • Price - is the spa sold as a complete unit or as the basic unit with optional features?
  • Note: Do NOT go by price alone....You get what you pay for!
